Warwick Angels 9 v 2 Leafield Athletic
Match Report 15.05.10.
Before I start my match report i must thank Leafield Athletic players and their manager , with me being the founder of Warwick Juniors FC if I had a team like Leafield under 12's in our club i would be very pround of them and there manager. WELL DONE LEAFIELD for playing the football in the manner you do and never giving up, if you had been able to field a full team every week I do believe the league table would look a lot different , good luck next season.
Today’s match was at home, although the match was played at the Racing Club, Warwick ground against Leafield Athletic.
This match was our penultimate game of the season, with just one more game to play against Sporting Club Albion (away). As I am sure most of our supporters will know this could be a crucial game, because of the points based system in deciding the final league position.
So to the game. As always Leafield gave us a good game, remembering that they could only field 10 players. From the start the Angels put Leafield under pressure, but time and time again we just could not gain a goal. 10 minutes in Jess came close, then Molly took a corner, which we failed to convert, then Jess had another long crack at goal, but it went just wide. Then from a handball free kick we were denied another chance. Then about 16 minutes in Harriet blocked a goal kick out to see her pop a goal home. Angels 1, Leafield 0. We then had another free kick from a handball, which Jess took to see the Leafield goalie save the shot. It was not until some 29 minutes that Jess managed to line up one of her great shots to take the score to Angels 2, Leafield 0. We then gained a corner, which Jess put in a great cross, to see Harriet sneaked in, because the goalie could not hold on to the ball. Angels 3, Leafield 0. In the dying seconds of the game Leafield gained a free kick, and had it not been for Jess clearing off our line they would have scored.
In the second half we were still not stringing our passes together as I know we can, but within the first 2 minutes Charlotte broke free to score one of her crackers. Angels 4, Leafield 0. However, 4 minutes in Leafield broke free to score. Angels 4, Leafield 1. Then a little later Leafield gained a penalty against us to see the score go to Angels 4, Leafield 2. Some 18 minutes into this half Molly broke free to crack home a goal. Angels 5, Leafield 2. A couple of minutes later Jess took one of her great long shots to take the score to Angels 6, Leafield 2. About 25 minutes in Jess was there again with one of her long shots to see the score go to Angels 7, Leafield 2. Then at long last after a great series of passes, Bethany was there to finish off the sequence with a neat goal. Angels 8,
Leafield 2. Then Molly made a great solo run only to see her shot blocked by the Leafield goalie, but the ball came out to Bethany to see her slot the ball home. Angels 9, Leafield 2. In the dying minutes if the game Leafield gained a free kick, but Emma caught this great ball way up in the top corner of our net. The final score of 9 – 2 to the Angels has set us up for a thrilling final match against W.B.A. Not that I am suggesting we will not go for a good win against W.B.A., but if we do loose, then we must stop them from getting more than a 3 – 0 goal difference, otherwise they will win the league. So Angels, if you want to win the league let’s see you play the cracking football I know you can.
Molly must have had her Weetabix again today, because she made a great contribution to the game,
and for that I am naming Molly as Angel of the Match.
Dean.
Angel of the match – Molly.
Knowle Girls 0 v 5 Warwick Angels
Match Report 28.04.10.
This match away against Knowle was originally scheduled for the 1st May, but Knowle were not able to put a team together for that date.
Knowle started off well, and they were certainly up for this game. They put in some good strong tackles, and were always there snapping at the ball. The Angels on the other hand could not seem to get into gear. Some of our passing, and clearances were poorly placed, and just not thought through, particularly when I know what they are all capable of. At best I would describe the Angels game as scrappy for most of the time, although just occasionally I did catch a glimpse of some of the skills that have taken us to be top of the League.
It was some 14 minutes into the game before Jess scored.
Jo had to save a goal attempt, and then shortly afterwards she had to rush out to pick up the ball when Knowle broke through our defence.
About 22 minutes into the game one of the Knowle players handled the ball, resulting in a penalty, which Jess easily put away. So at the end of the first half the score was a disappointing 2 nil to the Angels.
In the second half the Angels started off a little better, but were still off their usual game.
Knowle then put us under some pressure, and came close to scoring. Then Charlotte put in a great corner, which Rhyan so very nearly scored, but the ball went just wide.
Then about 8 minutes into this half Jess picked up the ball from a bit of scrambled passing to do what she does so well, and popped the ball home from about 25 yards out.
The Angels gave away a free kick, from which Knowle were dead on target, but somehow Jess managed to clear the ball off our goal line.
Next we gained a corner, which Harriet took to put the ball up for Charlotte to head home.
In the latter stages of the game the Angels came so very close, with Charlotte just missing a great lob shot, and then Jess doing the same.
With only minutes to go Harriet took the ball down the wing, and put in a truly great cross to Jess, who neatly shot the ball home. The final score was Knowle 0, Angels 5.
Sorry girls, but I just can’t pick out an Angel of the match for this performance.
Dean.
Angel of the match – None.
Warwick Angels 12 v 1 Leamington Lions
Match Report 24.04.10.
Today we were at our home ground hosting Leamington Lions.
I wouldn’t say this was an easy match, because the Lions did give us a good game, but I think it fair to say that we were the better side. All the Angels seemed up for this game, and we started off well stringing together our passes well. About five minutes into the game the Angels put together a whole sequence of passes to see Jess open the scoring. Then Jess, and Harriet came very close to scoring.
Our next chance came about 12 minutes into the game when there was a bit of goalmouth activity in the Lions goal area, from which Harriet able to take our second goal.
Then about 2 minutes later Molly slotted home a cracking goal. Some 18 minutes into the game Jess took one of her long punts to score again. Then Jess popped the ball up for Charlotte to take a header, but this went just wide. Then Molly hit he post. As we approached the latter stages of the first half we gained a free kick, which Molly took. The Lions goalkeeper did get her hands to it, but she could not hold the ball, and Bethany was there to pop the ball home. Shortly after this there was bit of a goalmouth scramble in the Lions goal area, and Harriet just missed a header, but Bethany was there to slot the ball home. Shortly after this the Lions goalie came off with an injury, leaving the Lions down to 9 players. In the dying minutes of the first half Charlotte passed to Jess, who in turn passed to Molly to see her slot the ball home. Taking the first half score to Angels 8 – Lions 0.
In the second half Bethany opened the scoring about 8 minutes in. In this second half the Lions did pick up their game, and they gained a free kick, which Jo did well to save. Then Molly who had been on fire for the whole match took a longish punt to score. Then she went and repeated that a few minutes later to score again. As I said the Lions had picked up their game, and they managed to break through to score a goal.
Molly must have had her three Weetabix, or something for breakfast, because she saved her most tremendous shot to the end, with a real cracking shot from about 40 yards out, to take her total goals for the match to five.
The final score was Angels 12 – Lions 1.
The Lions did make a game of it, but I have say I was so very proud of all my Angels, because they did produce some very entertaining football, coupled with some great passing, and ball control.
For her big contribution to this match I am pleased to say that Molly gets the Angel of the Match today.
Dean.
Angel of the match – Molly.
Warwick Angels 10 v 0 Coundon Court Girls
Match Report 17.04.10.
Today we played Coundon Girls at home. As I mentioned last week when we played them away we need to boost our goals to put us in a position to match Sporting club Albion, and protect our league position, but for me this is not good for the game. What I like to do is, if we have comfortable lead then I take off some of my more mature players, and put on some of my other players to help raise their match experience. In this way we have a good balanced game, and it allows me to give all my girls a chance to be involved. I tried to get that balance right today, bearing in mind that we do need goals. We have now played our scheduled three matches against Coundon, and I have to say that on each occasion it has been a pleasure to play them, because of the Coundon girls attitude to the game, and that of their supporters – thanks Coundon.
Coundon started off well with some good containing football, and it was well into the first half before we had chances to score with Jess, Rhyan, Harriet coming close, then we just missed converting a Molly corner, then Jess hit the crossbar. It was some 21 minutes into this half before Jess scored our first goal with about a 25 yard shot. Then Charlotte put through a cracking pass to leave Jess with about a 15-yard shot, which she put away for a goal. Then Charlotte came so very close. Right towards the end of this half Rhyan popped home another goal. To take the score to Angels 3 – Coundon 0.
3 minutes into the second half Jess crossed the ball, and Rhyan took it on the volley to put it into Coundon’s net. Angels 4, Coundon 0. Then Jess took a pass, and turned through 180 degrees to slam the ball home. Angels 5 – Coundon 0. Shortly afterwards Jess took one of her great long shots to give the Coundon goalie no chance. Angels 6 – Coundon 0.
Then about 15 minutes into this half Harriet picked up the ball to score a great lob shot. Angels 7 – Coundon 0.
A little later there was a goalmouth scramble with Bethany in amongst it. She took a swing at the ball, and missed it by a mile, then she had another try only to see it blocked, then third time lucky she popped the ball home. Angels 8 – Coundon 0.
Then 18 minutes in Beth S. broke free to slot home a goal. Angels 9 – Coundon 0.
With only minutes to go Bethany broke free to slot home the final goal of the match. Angels 10 – Coundon 0.
In the middle of all this Jess missed three chances, by putting the ball well over the Coundon crossbar, one from about 4 yards out – much to her disgust.
The Angels team were all great, but I have to say it again, well done Coundon Girls.
Dean.
Angels of the match – Harriet and Jess.
Coundon Court Girls 0 v 11 Warwick Angels
Match Report 10.04.10.
Before you read this report I must say that I was not happy with the score line because if anyone now's me when I think a game is won I change the team around to not insult the team we are playing because if you keep winning by that many goals good teams like Coundon Court will start to folding and that is not good for the girls game of football,we need good teams like Coundon, but in this case I had to keep the girls going forward because we my need the goal at the end off the season.
I say take G/D out of the girls game to many high scores over all divisions.
Thanks Dean
Today we played Coundon Girls away. It is always a pleasure to play Coundon. Their girls always play with great spirit, and their supporters just appreciate the game. Coundon were down to 10 players from the start, but they provided us with a really good match, and I have to thank them for that.
The Angels were well aware that with Sporting Club Albion pushing us hard for the league title we had boost our goals scored. With this in mind we started off well with Bethany slotting home the first goal after about 4 minutes. Then Harriet missed two chances, followed by a miss from Charlotte. The Angels continued to press forward, but all credit must go to the Coundon goalie for some great stuff in goal, and for the way Coundon played the offside rule so well.
Then about 18 minutes into this first half Harriet broke through to slot home a goal. Coundon produced some great play, only to concede a penalty from a hand ball situation. The player involved did not set out to deliberately handle the ball, she was just protecting her face from a very hard shot from Jess. Jess took the penalty to give us a goal.
Towards the end of this half Charlotte took the ball through several players to neatly slot the ball into the Coundon net. So at the end of the first half it was Coundon – 0, Angels 4.
In the second half Coundon played some good football, but the Angels were always the better side. Charlotte opened the scoring about 6 minutes in, followed by a goal from Beth S after about 9 minutes in. Then Charlotte popped another goal in after about 16 minutes to give her a hat trick. This was followed by a goal from Jess after about 20 minutes, then another from Jess about five minutes later to give Jess her hat trick, including her penalty. Then Zoë popped home a goal about 26 minutes in, which surprisingly failed to bring a smile to her face.
Then with only a few minutes of this half remaining Jess was forced to take the ball all the way, because Coundon had pushed up players to try and create an offside situation, which they had done so well all through the match, but Jess slotted the ball home to give us a final score of Coundon – 0, Angels 11.
This result went a long way towards our aim to raise our total goals scored, but having said that Charlotte, Jess, Harriet, and Rhyan all put several shots wide of goal.
As I said, the Coundon – 0, Angels 11 would seem to indicate a walk over for the Angels, but in fact this was one of those really enjoyable games, thanks to Coundon Girls, and their supporters.
I decided to make Charlotte, and Demi joint Angels of the match – Demi for her staunch efforts in defence.
Dean.
Angels of the match – Charlotte and Demi.
Coventry City Girls 1 v 4 Warwick Angels
Match Report 27.03.10.
Today’s match away against Coventry was our third, and last League match this season against Coventry. Our record against them has been OK. We beat them 3 – 1 mid November 2009, and towards the end of January we beat them 2 – 1, plus we beat them 2 – 1 in the Cup knockouts.
At the start of today’s match we were joint top of the league with 30 points each, but we have three games in hand.
For the whole of the first half the match was pretty even with Coventry coming close to scoring about 6 minutes into the game, then Wilko doing a great solo run down the wing, then Coventry pressing forward, then Jess doing a great run through the Coventry defence to take a shot at goal about 12 minutes into the game, then Coventry came back at us to see Jess clear the ball off our goal line. A little later Coventry had a shot at our goal, then the Angels came close with both Jess, and Rhyan denied chances. So at half time the score was 0 – 0.
In the second half Coventry really came at us to score in the first couple of minutes. Coventry 1, Angels 0. Not exactly to plan, but this goal against us seemed to cause the Angels to raise their game, and we put together some great football. About 10 minutes into this half we gained a corner, which Jess took, and Rhyan put the ball into Coventry’s net. Coventry 1 – Angels 1. Then a couple of minutes later Jess made a great pass to Harriet who put a cracking shot into Coventry’s goal. Coventry 1 – Angels 2.
About 15 minutes into this half Jess took a short pass from Wilko, and from about 25 yards out we saw Jess do one of her now famous, or should I say infamous great long punts straight into Coventry’s goal. Coventry 1 – Angels 3.
Coventry had a couple of breaks, but Millsey (Rhianna) / Ali / Emma A were solid in defence, and Charlotte – playing in a position I know she hates, used her speed and skills to clear one ball of our line, and time after time got the ball off Coventry to clear it with some very accurate balls to other Angels. Coventry did come close once, but Jo in goal was very brave to get on top of the ball.
Then about 20 minutes into this half Harriet took the ball around at least three Coventry players to score yet another cracking goal. Coventry 1 – Angels 4.
Particularly in the second half the Angels as a team all performed really well, with great across the pitch passing, and ball control. In the first half the match was pretty even, but after Coventry scored their goal in the second half, the Angels all played the sort of great football I know they can.
It was good to note that after a heavy foul on Jess, the Coventry player responsible did apologise, and shake Jess’s Hand.
For her contribution today I am naming Emma A as the Angel of the match.
Dean.
Angel of the match – Emma A.
Leafield Athletic 1 v 4 Warwick Angels
Match Report 20.03.10.
We played Leafield away today with a lunchtime kick off. Leafield have some good players, and we always seem to have a great competitive game against them. They are one of those sides you enjoy playing, because they always test us, but at the same time their players, and supporters just appreciate good football. Like our supporters they are very vocal, but always in a good way.
The Angels made a good confident start, but about 4 minutes into the game Leafield came very close to scoring. Then about 6 minutes into the game Jess took one of her long cracking shots at goal, and their goalkeeper did well to get her hands to it, but she just could not hold onto the ball, and Bethany was there to pop the goal home. Leafield 0 – Angels 1.
Shortly afterwards Leafield came close to scoring, but this was turned away for a corner. Our defence were able to get this away. Then about 15 minutes into the game Charlotte slotted a neat pass to Rhyan, who scored a good goal. Leafield 0 – Angels 2. This was followed a little later by a real good old tussle near to the Leafield goalmouth with Rhyan, Harriet, and Bethany all coming close to scoring. Leafield’s goalkeeper did really well to keep the ball out. This was followed by some good football by both sides with Leafield’s goalkeeper making a great save in the last few minutes of this half.
In the second half Leafield came back at us with some good play, stringing together some great long passes, and about 7 minutes into this half they managed to break through our defence to score. Leafield 1 – Angels 2.
After this the Angels were also stringing some good passes together, and Jess made a super long pass to Bethany who calmly slotted the ball home. Leafield 1 – Angels 3.
Leafield continued to produce some really good football, but the Angels were well up to them. We had several more chances with Bethany, Harriet, and Rhyan all coming close. Their goalkeeper did some great work in goal for them.
Then well into this second half Molly made a brilliant solo run from deep defence, all the way up the wing fending off several tackles to finally flick the ball to Bethany, who once more slotted the ball home to give her a “hat trick”. Leafield 1 – Angels 4, and this was the final score.
Have to say this was a really enjoyable match, on a wet soggy pitch, and I have to thank Leafield for giving us such a good competitive game.
My Angel of the match was the hardest of the season so far, I have gone with 5 players all diffrest players and ability and gave all for me and the team today, so they all get the angels of the match, well done all.
Dean.
Angels of the match – Jess, Beth S, Harriet, Bethany Rhyan L.
Warwick Angels 2 v 1 Coventry City GIrls
Match Report 13.03.10.
Today we played Coventry at home. The last time we played them was in a Cup match towards the end of January. We played a solid game against a physically strong Coventry to take them out of the Cup with a 2 – 1 win.
At the start of today’s match Coventry are currently top of the league, but we have three games in hand. Nevertheless this match was crucial to make sure we can win the league. So, how did the match go? First of all I had to reshuffle my team, and put Charlotte in defence, because of missing players particularly in defence. What else can I say? The Angels certainly know how to give their manager, and their fans heart palpitations. Coventry came at us with some really strong play, and the Angels just didn’t settle to the new formation. At times we were guilty of were just kicking the ball anywhere, and certainly the Angels played well below the skills they are capable of. In this first half we did have the odd chance, but these were few and far between, and Coventry had most of the play. We just could not get the ball in the Coventry half, whereas Coventry seemed to be able to pick up our half clearances, and get the ball well into our half. Within the first five minutes Coventry had shaved our goalpost, and hit the crossbar. So it came as no surprise to see Coventry take a 0 – 1 lead some 10 minutes into the game.
Almost immediately after the kick off Coventry yet again shaved our goalpost. Then Bethany took a kick to the knee, and had to come off. So I had to re-arrange my team once more. Towards the end of the half we did have a great chance with Rhyan, and then Beth involved in a goalmouth scramble, which the Coventry goalkeeper managed to get her hands on with the ball just on the wrong side of the line for us. Then Coventry temporally lost a player, who injured her arm after a tackle. With the half coming to an end Jess just missed a long shot, and then about a minute later Jess had another long lob at goal to take us to a 1 – 1 draw. In the dying seconds of this first half Coventry shaved our goal once more.
In the second half we did play marginally better as a team, but Jess and Charlotte were so often deep in defence clearing the ball from the line on more than one occasion. Then about 10 minutes into this half both Jess and Charlotte started to break free. Jess put in a fantastic cross to Harriet, which then went to Hannah. The ball then came back to Jess who nearly scored. Then minute’s later Charlotte put a perfect cross to Rhyan, who slotted the ball home. 2 – 1 to the Angles some 18 minutes into the half. From then on the match continued with the same pattern, Zoe winning the ball, and taking it up the wing several times, Hannah coming close, Coventry nearly scoring, Ali doing some great defending, then Charlotte taking the ball around several Coventry players to hit the bar, then Coventry nearly scoring.
This was a heart-stopping match for all the wrong reasons, but at least we came away with a 2 – 1 win.
Dean.
Angel of the match – Marrocco.
League Cup Semi Final
Leafield Athletic 0 v 3 Warwick Angels
Match Report 06.03.10.
We played Leafield at home about a month ago, and although we beat them 4 – 1, the Angels played a poor game. Leafield were short of players, and only had nine players on the pitch, and one of them was not well, and did not spend the whole time on the pitch. So our win was a bit hollow. Today’s away match was a Cup semi final, and one we needed to win to take us to the final. Again Leafield were plagued with team shortages, only managing to put 10 players of the pitch. Despite these difficulties they are fourth in the league, so this had all the makings of a great game. And in fact it was a great game, made all the more enjoyable by Leafield’s sporting supporters.
The game started off with both sides playing well. It took the Angels a good five minutes into the game before they started to really pass the ball, and defend well, with Millsey (Rhianna) proving to be very strong with some of her tackles, and Ali / Molly clearing the ball well. It wasn’t until about 20 minutes into the game that Charlotte picked up the ball from a series of passes to neatly take the ball way up the field, and then flick the ball to Bethany who slotted the ball into the net. Leafield 0 – Angels 1.
Leafield came back at us with some neat football, and then about 7 minutes later Jess repeated Charlotte’s play to neatly flick the ball to Harriet, who scored a good goal. Leafield 0 – Angels 2.
Into the second half the Angels were well and truly passing the ball well, but all credit to Leafield, they defended well to deny us several chances. Then about 13 minutes into this half Charlotte picked up the ball from a whole series of tussles to take the ball around several Leafield players, and you just knew that she was going to score one of her classic goals, which she did. Leafield 0 – Angels 3. This was the result at the end of the match, although we did come so close to scoring more than once, with Bethany, and Harriet seeing the ball just cleared of the Leafield goal line, and Rhyan coming very close.
All through the match Charlotte, and Jess did what they do so well, which is to roam free, and create havoc amongst the opposition. Every single one of the Angels played a great game to a level way above that which they have been playing recently, and they all contributed so much to the game, but Charlotte, who has not been at her best recently, was on fire, and her and Jess were as they used to be, covering the pitch so well, blocking the ball, creating chance after chance. These two, along with the rest of the Angels gave the supporters a real memorable game to watch.
So, we are now through to the Cup final, and if we play as we did today, I think we can win.
As I say all the team played so well today, but because Charlotte was back to the Charlotte of old I am naming her as player of the match.
Dean.
Angels of the match – Charlotte.
Leamington Lions 0 v 5 Warwick Angels
Match Report 13.02.10.
After last week’s poor performance against Leafield with only nine players, which we won 4 – 1, several of the Angels team had promised me a much better game with Leamington Lions this week. Last season the Lions were our archrivals, but this season with us at the top of the league, and the Lions at the bottom of the league, this match on paper should have been a breeze. In fact the Angels for much of the first half were untidy, and although we were marginally the better side, the Lions gave us a really competitive match, with their number 9 only just going over the bar – so close.
About 4 minutes in, Bethany broke free to score a neat goal. Lions 0 – Angels 1. At odd times in this half the Angels did string some passes together, but overall we could just not seem to get it together. It wasn’t until the 21st minute that Jess set up Bethany with a great pass, to see Bethany take her second neat goal. Lions 0 – Angels 2. Then as we approached the end of the first half Rhyan, and Bethany were involved in a real scramble with the Lions goalkeeper, and her and Bethany went down. All credit to the Lions goalkeeper who saved the shot, and to Bethany for the way she sportingly helped the Lions goalkeeper to her feet.
In the second half the Angels started to play some great football, near the standard we have come to expect, and in the 7th minute Charlotte produced a brilliant pass to Bethany, who took her chance to slot home her hat trick. Lions 0 – Angels 3. Then after about 9 minutes, and some great passing by the Angels, starting back in defence, Jess was there to take a cracking long shot into the Lions goal. Lions 0 – Angels 4.
The Angels now seemed to be firing on all cylinders, with great defensive play, Emma solid in goal, and the midfield / strikers all shouting for the ball. About 19 minutes into this half Zoe came within a whisker of scoring a great goal.
Then around 24 minutes into this half the Angels strung a whole series of passes together, the ball then coming to Charlotte, who literally produced a perfect pass to place the ball in front of Hannah, just a few yards out, and Hannah neatly punted the ball into the Lions net. Lions 0 – Angels 5.
In summary, we played a mediocre first half with some messy play, but in the second half we raised our game to a level that has taken us to the top of the Premier League. I was very pleased to see the way we raised our game, and certainly in the second half all my Angels deserve a pat on the back for some entertaining football. For her hat trick, and general sporting play I am naming Bethany as the Angel of the match.
Next week we have no game.
Dean.
Angels of the match – Bethany S.
Warwick Angels 4 v 1 Leafield Athletic
Match Report 06.02.10.
This is the first time we have played Leafield Athletic. Our earlier matches were all postponed. This home match had all the potential of being a challenge, with some good football. Leafield have a great track record with wins of 14 – 2, 9 – 1, 7 – 0, and 7 – 3. Only Sporting Club Albion (W.B.A.), and Coventry have beaten them, and they also held Coventry to a draw.
Unfortunately this match did not live up to expectations, because it seems that Leafield have struggled to get sufficient players this season, and they were only able to field a team of nine players due to illness in the squad. Also the Angels had a number of players who had been ill during the week, and in truth this led to us playing a lacklustre scrappy game, with little evidence of the ball control the Angels are capable of, and not much shouting for the ball.
Four minutes into the game the Angels gained a corner, which Jess took, and Molly cleanly booted the ball into Leafield’s net. Angels 1, Leafield nil. Much of the play was in Leafield’s half, and after about 11 minutes Molly got the ball just inside Leafield’s half, and she well and truly booted the ball, which again went into Leafield’s net. Angels 2, Leafield nil.
Much to Leafield’s credit, remembering that they only had eight players on the pitch, plus their goalkeeper they put the Angels under some real pressure.
Due to the lack of players on the pitch they left themselves exposed in defence, and Harriet broke free after about 17 minutes only to see her first cracking shot hit the Leafield goalpost, but she was there to pick up the rebound, and popped the ball into Leafield’s net. Angels 3, Leafield nil.
Once again Leafield put us under severe pressure, and towards the end of this half, they gained corner after corner, because the Angels just could not get the ball clear, and resorted to some scrappy panic wild booting of the ball.
In the second half Leafield continued to give us a real run for our money, and about 28 minutes into this half they came so very close to scoring, with much wild ball play by the Angels, and in the end Charlotte – way back in defence, cleared the ball of our line.
Leafield with their much-stretched side kept up the pressure, and this paid off for them with a well deserved goal. Angels 3, Leafield 1.
With 3 minutes to go Charlotte broke free, and took a great shot at goal, hitting the crossbar, and the ball dropping down to the goalkeeper, who just could not hold the ball, but Bethany was there to just tip the ball into Leafield’s net. Angels 4, Leafield 1.
At this stage, whatever the outcome, I usually praise my Angels, but today in the dressing room I think they were all aware that they played below par.
Dean.
Angels of the match – Harriet.
Warwick Angels 2 v 1 Coventry City Girls
Cup Game
Match Report 23.01.10.
This was our first match since our memorable 5 – 1 win over Sporting Club Albion on the December 12. With the Christmas break, and the bad weather we have not played since then, as is the case with the rest of the league. Mind you I have to say that despite the grim weather I was really chuffed with my Angels for turning up for the last training session before Christmas, and on January 20 – they were all there, which shows their commitment – great for any Manager.
The grapevine tells me it is not just the girls, but also the parents and supporters that have truly missed their Saturday morning “Adrenaline Fix” of football.
Whenever we have played Coventry it has always been a great match. Today’s match did not quite live up to that expectation.
When play started both sides seemed to be a bit tentative with neither side dominating the match. About six minutes into the game Coventry had a good run of play, and they made a close range lob at our goal, which Emma managed to get her fingertips to, but she just could not hold the ball, and it dropped into our net – Angels nil, Coventry 1.
After the kick off from this goal, both sides had their chances to score with Rhyan, Bethany, and Charlotte coming so very close to scoring. Then about 11 minutes into this first half we had a good run of play to see the ball go to Jess, who put the ball into Coventry’s net – Angels 1, Coventry 1.
After this goal the match continued with fairly even play from both sides, with Bethany just shooting wide right at the end of this first half.
At the start of the second half Coventry put us under a lot of pressure, and seemed to play a much more physical game, with a lot of heavy leaning on our players. Then about 11 minutes into this half we really bolted together a whole string of passes, originating from our defence, to midfield, and then to Jess about 20 yards out. It was one of those occasions when you just knew that Jess was going to put the ball away, which she did with a cracking shot – Angels 2, Coventry 1.
From then on this second half followed the pattern of much of the match, with Coventry coming very close to scoring, and had it not been for Rhianna (Millsey), and Molly clearing from just in front of our goal, Coventry would have almost certainly scored. On the other hand Rhyan, Hannah, Zoe, Charlotte, and Bethany all came close to scoring, had it been for some great goalkeeping by the Coventry goalkeeper.
As I mentioned we have always come to expect a great sporting game from Coventry, but in today’s game Coventry were very physical in their play, for which the Angels matched them!!!!
In the end our 2 – 1 win was a fair result.
Our next match against Sporting Club Albion (W.B.A.) is going to be a crunch match in terms of our final league position. I am confident my Angels can do well in this match, and they have all shown their commitment to our team.
Once again I am proud of each and every one of my Angels, but today I have to pick out Jess Carter as my Angel of the match.

Angel of the match – Jess.
Angels 5 V 1 SPORTING CLUB ALBION
SATURDAY 12TH DECEMBER
Today’s match was a home game against Sporting Club Albion (W.B.A.). Albion came to this game with a brilliant track record, having beaten very soundly just about every team they have played, including the Angels. The last time we played them away we agreed to accept a stand in Ref., because the booked Ref. did not turn up. This stand in Ref. failed to bring the game to a halt when Jess was injured, and had it not been for Charlotte, who kicked the ball into touch, and much shouting from the sideline this stand in Ref. was letting play continue. So, when Albion levelled criticism at the Ref. today for letting the match flow it was very much a bit of the “pot calling the kettle black”. The Albion supporters did themselves no favours today with their poor attitude to the game.
They came over as a bunch of sore losers, because without doubt the Angels outplayed Albion with some great outstanding football.
Right from the kick off the Angels were clearly producing some great football, with sound accurate passing, and ball skill. About 8 minutes into the game Albion gained a corner, but it came to nothing, because our defence handled it well. Then about 13 minutes into the game Jess put the ball up for Charlotte who only just missed heading a goal, then Jess had a crack at goal to see her shot just go wide. Without doubt the Angels were very much on top of the game, and about 15 minutes into the game the girls produced some brilliant passing to give Rhyan a great crack at goal to take the Angels to a 1 – 0 lead. 18 minutes into the game Charlotte won the ball, and passed to Bethany, who in turn passed to Harriet, who took a fantastic clean goal to take the score to 2 –0.
Albion did put some pressure on the Angels in the 27th minute, and Emma was forced to concede a corner, but yet again our defence were there to get the ball clear. So, at the half time whistle the score was 2 – 0.
5 minutes into the second half Rhyan came so very close to scoring her second goal, but it went just wide.
Then about 10 minutes into the second half Albion managed to break through with a great shot, which Emma just could not stop, taking the score to 2 –1. Despite this the Angels were always on top of the game, and again after some slick passing Bethany was there to score some 12 minutes into this half to take the score to 3 – 1. Shortly after this Charlotte put the ball to Jess, who put Rhyan on for her second goal. To take the score to 4 –1. The angels remained on fire with some memorable football, and great strength of play. Then in the 23rd minute Jess took one of her classic great long shots at goal to take the Angels to a 5 –1 lead.
In my mind every single one of the Angels gave 110% to this game, and they deserved to win. Had it not been for some very good goalkeeping by the Albion goalie the score could have been more for the Angels.

Angels 9 v 0 Knowle Girls
Saturday 28th November
Today’s match was a home game against Knowle Girls. Over the season’s we have always had some great matches against Knowle, played in a friendly manner, and this match was no exception. Knowle have lost some of their experienced players due to school commitments, but having said that their squad played a good game, and the final score of 9 – 0 to the Angels perhaps does not reflect the spirit of the Knowle team. On the other hand I have to say that my Angels played some great football, with some brilliant passing, at times from one side of the pitch to the other, as well as some excellent short passes, with each of them shouting for the ball, and showing some really good reading of the game.
Zoe opened the scoring some 8 minutes into the game, with a well taken shot. Then about a minute later Harriet shaved Knowles’s goal post, just to the wrong side. A few minutes later Charlotte picked up the ball to beat a couple of Knowle players to crack the ball home. Then in the 17th minute, Harriet took a pass from Bethany to crack the ball into the Knowle net. The Angels continued to produce some spot on passing, and after about 23 minutes Harriet once more had a great shot at goal, only to see the Knowle goalkeeper turn the ball past the post for a corner. Then in the last few minutes of the first half, there was a whole series of short passes from the Angels, with Knowle crowding in on the ball, but Bethany did what she does so well, and popped the ball home from this mad scramble, to take the first half score to 4 – 0.
Within the first couple of minutes of the second half, Molly booted the ball from way out to score our first goal of this half. Then a couple of minutes later the Angels gained a corner. Molly took the corner, and placed the ball for Jess to slam home a header.
After about 15 minutes into this half the Angels strung together a whole series of well timed passes, finally getting the ball to Bethany, who neatly finished off with a goal.
Some 25 minutes into this half Knowle did put some pressure on the Anglels, and gained three consecutive corners, the first two we failed to clear, but the third one we got the ball well up the pitch, which eventually led to a Knowle player passing the ball back to her goalkeeper, who handled the ball to give the Angels an indirect free kick. With just about every player from the Knowle squad lined up across their goal, Jess took the kick with a short back pass to Charlotte, who somehow, but very skilfully, popped the ball into the very top of the Knowle goal, to take the final score to 9 – 0.
My Angels played some classic football today, and if we can repeat that when we next play W.B.A. we can win. Finally I would just add that much of this great play was down to our defence allowing our midfield / strikers to play the game, and all credit goes to Molly, Millsey, Ali,Emma, Joe for this defence, as well as Emma in goal.

Angels 11 v 0 Ferndale Girls
21-11-2009
This home game was a Cup match against Ferndale Girls who play in a division below us in the Central Warwickshire League.
In truth this match was a bit of a walk over for the Angels, but having said that the Ferndale Girls never once lost heart, and they were shouting for the ball and encouraging each other. The match was played in excellent spirit. The Angels did me proud with some great passing, and ball play, as well as reading the game.
Rhyan opened the scoring about 12 minutes into the game. Our second goal came from a pass from Jess to Bethany 18 minutes into the game. The third goal came from passes from Rhyan, and Bethany to Harriet some 20 minutes into the game. A couple of minutes’ later Charlotte did a back pass to Molly, who punted the ball into the Ferndale net.
As we were approaching the end of the first half, Jess took the opportunity to slam the ball home from about 25 yards out. Then with only minutes to go to half time Molly passed the ball to Hannah, who put the ball away for us, to take the half time score to 6 – 0.
Charlotte, who had been off school, and unwell all week, went home at half time – we all hope she is well again soon.
Five minutes into the second half Wilko opened the scoring, and a few minutes later Molly powerfully cracked the ball into the Ferndale net. Then Wilko and Harriet did some neat passing to get the ball Hannah, who slotted the ball home.
At this stage Jo took over in goal, and Emma Mooney played in defence, making some good contributions. With her, Millsey, and Molly in defence we played a very solid defence game.
After about 21 minutes Bethany picked up the ball from a bit of a goalmouth scramble just in front of the Ferndale goal, to pop the ball into the net.
As we approached the end of the first half, Ferndale gained two corners, but these were dealt with well. Then with about 30 seconds to go to the end of the match, Harriet broke free to slot home the final goal of the match, taking the final score to 11 – 0.
For those that I have not mentioned in this report, I just want to say that every single player on the pitch today, played some great football, and I am very proud of all my players.

Angels 3 v 1 Coventry City Girls
14-11-2009
This week we played Coventry at home. Whenever we have played Coventry in the past it has always been a great game, and this was no exception. Last week Coventry played W.B.A. (Sporting Club Albion) beating the 2 – 1 to take Coventry to the top of the league. So this match was a crucial match for the Angels even though we have a game in hand.
Right from the start of play the Angels dominated the match with good ball play, tackling, and passing. Eight minutes into the game Coventry conceded a penalty with a handball. The Coventry player was obviously defending her face from the ball, but she did deliberately handle the ball. Jess took the penalty with a cracking shot to give the Angels a 1 – 0 lead. Coventry came back at us, and put us under some pressure. In the 24th minute they had a great shot at our goal, but it just missed going into our net.
In the second half Coventry really put the pressure on, and like us in the first half, Coventry dominated much of the play, and they were in our half for a lot of the time. They gained several corners, which we managed to survive, but after 10 minutes into the second half Coventry scored with a deflected shot off one of our players to take the score to 1 – 1.
After that the play was fairly even, with Coventry just shading the amount of possession. Then about 20 minutes into this half Jess tested the Coventry goalkeeper with a long shot. The goalkeeper did stop the ball, but she could not hold it, and Beth Saunders was there to finish off the goal. Score 2 – 1. Then with about five minutes to go, Jess passed the ball to Charlotte who brought the ball down with great skill, and turned to pass to Bethany, who in turn passed to Harriet. Harriet very calmly out manoeuvred the Coventry goalkeeper to pop in a great controlled shot, taking the score to 3 – 1.
Overall both sides had their chances, and there were several times in the second half when it looked like Coventry would score, but Emma Mooney, in our goal, did look a very safe pair of hands. Having said that Jess had a couple of long cracks at the Coventry goal, and we came close to scoring from a corner.
The Angels did me proud, and I think our win was a fair reflection of the game, particularly with our first half play.
Charlotte seemed to be involved in the play wherever it took place, and she made a great contribution to the whole game by her presence. For that reason I am naming her Angel of the match.
Dean.
Angel of the match – Charlotte.
Coundon Court Girls 0 v 9 Angels
07-11-2009
This was a league match away against Coundon Court Girls.
Despite the score – Coundon 0, Angels 9, this was a great match, played in good spirit, matched by the friendly chat, and banter about the unique style of our referee, between supporters of both sides. The Coundon crew made us very welcome.
Zoe opened the scoring for us within the first five minutes, followed by a second goal from Hannah after 8 minutes. Then about 10 minutes later Charlotte collected the ball, and passed to Bethany, who in turn passed to Harriet, who popped in a cracking shot. Shortly afterwards there was a bit of a goalmouth scramble in the mouth of Coundon’s goal, and Bethany was there to finish this off with a goal. With about 2 minutes to go to the end of the first half Harriet was once more on to the ball to finish off with a really neat shot taking the score to
0 – 5.
In the second half Jess opened this off after 2 minutes with a great shot. A while later Jess was there again, and with the Coundon goalkeeper way off her line, Jess produced a great lob for her second goal. Shortly after this Jess saw her chance from about 25 yards out, and booted the ball in to the Coundon net to give her a hat-trick. Then with about five minutes to go to the end of the match, Molly took her chance to score, taking us to a 0 – 9 win.
Looking at this score line it would appear that we trounced Coundon, but in fact the Coundon girls never once dropped their heads, and they did give us a really good game. It was one of those games that when it reached the end you were sorry it was all over, because it was so enjoyable.
All of Angels were up for this match, and each and every one of them made a major contribution to the game by some brilliant inter passing, and ball skills. I heard that several of the Coundon supporters praised the play, and skill of the Angels, which to their credit lent to the spirit in which this match was played.
If we can match this spirit, and ball skills when we next play W.B.A., then I am sure we can give them a good game, and probably beat them. I was truly proud to be the Angels Manager today.
I am not in any way trying to rub salt into the Coundon wound, but Emma – our new player in goal was nothing more than a spectator in the first half. In the second half I put her on the field, and she quickly joined in with a good contribution to the match.
With everyone playing so well it was very difficult to name an Angel of the match, so I put it to the Angels team for a nomination, and they nominated Hannah.
Dean.
Angel of the match – Hannah.
Sporting Club Albion 4 v 0 Angels
03-10-2009
This was an away match against Sporting Club Albion (W.B.A.). At this very early stage in the season Albion have already shown themselves to be a very strong team, with a reputation for scoring highly against other teams. For to-days game I had several players, who for a variety of reasons could not play. This was made even worse, because most of those players were part of our defence. I had to re-arrange the team such that a number of our players were forced to play in unfamiliar positions. Having said all that, the Angels played a really good game managing to keep the ball in the Albion’s half for much of the first half, and put real pressure on Albion. Towards the end of the first half Albion managed to break away, and scored 25 minutes into this half, score 0 –1. At start of the second half Albion came back at us with some strong play, and after only about 2 minutes into this half they scored again to take the score to 0 – 2. The Angels continued to play some great football, and Charlotte got the ball about 40 yards out, and proceeded to beat one after another Albion player – I counted five players she got round, to give herself a shot at goal, which had it not been for the strong wind would have gone in. I was disappointed for Charlotte, and the rest of the team, because had this gone in we would almost certainly have put Albion under even more pressure, because they were by no means dominating the game. In fairness to Albion they really did come back at us with some great football to score two very fortunate, but quick goals after 10 minutes, and 12 minutes into this second half. Jo made one really fine save from a high ball, which somehow she reached, and Rhyan certainly prevented a further goal by a brilliant clearance off the goal line. About half way through this second half Jess was the victim of a very strong tackle, and she went down only to have one of the Albion players accidentally tread on her ankle. She was clearly in pain, but the Ref., who was a stand in Ref., because the booked Ref. did not turn up, failed to bring the game to a halt. Had it not been for Charlotte, who kicked the ball into touch, and much shouting from the sideline this stand in Ref. was letting play continue. Jess’s strong play was much missed after she was helped off the pitch, clearly hurt. I don’t usually pick out players for a special mention, but this week I have to say that Ryhan was superb, and Charlotte was outstandingly brilliant, but having said that the whole team were fantastic, and for that reason I am naming the whole team for players of the match. I can’t change the score, Albion 4, Angels 0, but I think this score does not reflect the quality of the game we played. Dean.
Angels of the match – the whole team.
Angels 4 v 1 Leamington Lions
26-09-2009
This was a home match against Leamington Lions. The Lions got off to a great start scoring a goal against us in the first few minutes of the match. The Angels were caught napping, as they have been before in last season’s matches. This is something we will have to be aware of in future matches. We need to be on the ball from kick off. Once this goal had been scored the Angels woke up, and got their act together, playing some great passing football. After about 12 minutes into the match, this paid off with a great goal from Rhyan to take us to 1 – 1. The Lions did come back at us, but for much of the first half we kept the ball in the Lions half, apart from a couple of breaks by them, which we coped with well by some strong defence. The Angels really played as a team, linking together some great passes to eventually get the ball to Harriet, who calmly slotted the ball into the Lions goal in the 26th minute of the first half to give us a 1 – 2 lead. In the second half the Angels continued to read the game well, and managed to retain the ball with a whole series of passes to each other. It was good to see them shouting to each other for the ball, and stringing together their passes to such great effect. About 12 minutes into this second half, Jess got the ball about 40 yards out, and placed a perfect pass to Charlotte who took the ball past a couple of the Lions players to give herself a clear shot at goal, which she hammered home totally wrong footing the Lions goalkeeper, to take the score to 1 – 3. The Lions did come back at us, and get the ball into our half a few times, but at no time did we get into the sort of scrambled clearances we got into last season. Millsey and Molly were solid in defence, although Charlotte and Jess did come back to help support them. Something, which I told them off about, because I felt our defence, had the situation covered, but I guess old habits die hard, because last season these two had to help out our defence, and tidy up on many occasions. As the last few minutes of the match approached we yet again played some very good passing football stringing together at least nine beautifully placed and accurate passes to get the ball to Harriet who scored her second cracking goal to take the final score to 1 – 4. Harriet, Jess, Bethany, Charlotte, and Rhyan were all denied goals by some good goalkeeping by the Lions goalkeeper. Next week we play W.B.A. away, and I know that some of the Angels feel this will be a difficult match, but provided my Angels play as they did today, and keep possession and string their passes together we have a very good chance of winning this match. Dean.
Angel of the match – HARRIET.
Knowle 0 v 7 Angels
19-09-2009
This match against Knowle was our first match of the 2009 / 2010 season, and was an away match. All the girls seemed to be geared up for this game. Since last season, remembering that we won the league, we have had two new very useful players join the Angels – Molly (defence), and Harriet (midfield / striker), so along with our established players we now have a pretty strong squad. There is no doubt that in the under 12’s Central Warwickshire Girls League there are some very strong teams, and only time will tell as to how we get on, but I think my girls have what it takes to do well. So, to the match. After about 9 minutes into the game Rhyan took a pass from Jess via Charlotte to neatly score our first goal of the season. Knowle came back at us with some very useful play, but both Millsey (Rhianna) and Molly were very sound in defence. This strength in defence allowed us to play some good passing football, and after about 12 minutes Harriet got the ball to score our second goal with a really neat, and controlled shot. Once again Knowle came back at us with some strong play, and put pressure on us when they gained a corner. The Angels dealt with this corner to get the ball to Jess about 25 yards out, and she hit a long clean shot into the Knowle goal. Yet again Knowle came back at us, and for a good five minutes much of the play was in our half. Then by some good skilful play by the Angels they pushed the ball to Charlotte, who took the ball up the left wing to score a cracking goal in the last few minutes of the first half, making the score 0 – 4. In fairness, and with all credibility to Knowle none of their girls dropped their heads, and they started the second half well with some good play, and put pressure on us to gain another corner. Once again the Angels dealt with this well, and from our break away Harriet hit the Knowle goalpost. After about 15 minutes into the second half we then gained a corner, which Jess took with a great swerving ground shot to slot to the ball into Knowle’s goal. The Knowle girls still pushed forward, but Molly got the ball, and from about the halfway line she punted the ball with a great long lob over the head of the Knowle goalkeeper to make the score 0 – 6. Then almost at the end of the match Bethany received a great pass to slot the ball into Knowle’s goal. So the final score was 7 nil to the Angels. Rhyan, Bethany, Zoe, Harriet, Jess, and Charlotte all came close to scoring even more goals, but having said that, and despite the big score in our favour the Knowle girls did make this a good challenging game. I have to say that all my girls played a great controlled passing game, and they were all shouting for the ball, and played as real team. Well done everyone. Dean.
