Coundon Court 2 v 10 Angels
Warwick Angels Match Report 07.05.11.
Today’s away game against Coundon Court Girls is our very last league game of the 2010 / 2011 season.
The Angels started off well with a neatly worked ball to Beth Stokes who slotted the ball home in the first 4 minutes. This was followed about a minute later with some good inter-passing from Harriet, and Nat to set up Jess for a good goal. Then in the ninth minute Nat cracked one home. Coundon did come back at us, but in the nineteenth minute Jess popped in another. Well into the first half Nat collected the ball from some neat passing to score. To take the half time score to Coundon 0, Angels 5.
For the start of the second half, and through this half I made a whole series of changes. Right at beginning of this half Coundon broke through to score. The Coundon Girls continued to press forward, and despite the score line they never gave up pressing. This was rewarded about 23 minutes in with a second goal for Coundon. Then some 28 minutes in Chloe produced a fine goal line header to score from a Nat pass. This was followed a few minutes later by a neat back pass to Harriet who took her chance to score. The some 31 minutes in Rhyan broke free to pop in a neat goal. A minute later Nat received a neat pass from a whole series of passes to slot the ball home. Then in the 33rd minute there was a real goalmouth scramble, which Jess almost carried the ball through to score, but she just could not push the ball over the line, but Ali was there to tip the ball over the line.
The Angels came so very close on a number of occasions with some long shots from Charlotte, and Beth Saunders and Zoe came really close. Our defence were good with some great stuff from Millsey, Robin, Molly, and Ali. Wilko had a great game with some really good play both in mid field, and the wing. Overall this was a good game thanks to some good play by Coundon. The final score of Coundon 2, Angels 10 against a Coundon 10 player squad perhaps did not fully reflect the effort put in by Coundon.
I just want to say that the Angels have performed beyond my wildest dreams this season. They have won every single match, including cup knockouts, I think this must be a record achievement. They have scored a fantastic 139 goals in the league, with only 13 scored against them, including today’s match. This is down to every single girl in the Angels team, because each and every one of them has truly contributed to this achievement. As Manager I am so proud of what they have all done.
Just a word of warning – Bilbrook (our cup opposition) beat Coventry 3 – 1 last week, so if the Angels want the cup, they will need to play well.

Angel of the Match – Wilko.
Leamington Lions 0 v 3 Angels
Warwick Angels Match Report 30.04.11.
Today’s away game was our last match against Leamington Lions this season, and our penultimate game of the season. It was good to see the Lions able to field a full team for only the second time this season, plus they had one reserve today. The match was played in the sunshine, but a strong blustery wind, along with a hard pitch made conditions difficult for both sides.
I don’t know if it was the end of season “blues”, or the fact that the Angels have already won the league, but most of the game was flat, with the Angels mainly playing without their usual flair. The Angels never looked like they would concede a goal, but for some reason they squandered several chances from corners, and other play. Both Nat and Jess came close in the 10th, and 11th minute, then for a brief moment in the 25th minute the Lions put us under a bit of pressure. This was followed in the 28th minute by a neat Jess cross, only to see Beth Stokes put the ball over the Lions goal. Another attempt in the 33rd minute saw the Lions goalie produce a fine save. This was followed a minute later by a Jess shot from way out, but the ball went over the Lions goal. Then right at the end of the first half, and perhaps even in a bit of extra time added on for stoppages, Jess really booted the ball from way out to see the Lions goalie beaten. So, the final score at the end of the first half was Lions 0, Angels 1.
In the second half the Angels marginally picked up their game, but not to the level they can play at. Again we had our chances with Jess coming close, and a wasted corner. This was followed about six minutes in with a bit of Angels flair to see Nat cross the ball to Beth Stokes, who literally almost kicked the ball from the Lions goalies hand to snatch a goal. It was not until about the 17th minute that the Angels produced some really neat play resulting in a great Jess high shot, but the Lions goalie produced an equally great save. In the 20th minute we gained a corner, which Nat took, only to see the ball go straight to Lions goalie. The Lions briefly came back at us, but our defence were well on top of the situation, then Jess had a long punt that came close. This was followed by a good Nat shot, but the Lions goalie did well to stop the shot. Then as we approached full time Nat produced a cracking goal, to take the final score to Lions 0, Angels 3.
Overall the Angels played an adequate game to take the points, but certainly below their usual standard of play.
I would just mention Chloe’s contribution to the game, which was notable, particularly as her Mum was in hospital. Well-done Chloe, and thanks for turning up in the circumstances.

Angel of the Match – Jess.
Angels 8 v 0 Leamington Lions
Angels Match Report 16.04.11.
Today’s match against Leamington Lions is our very last home match of the season. We are scheduled to play Leamington away again on the 30th April, and then Coundon away on the 7th May. We go into this match knowing that we are the League Champions. Leamington Lions have struggled all season to field a squad of 11 players, and today was no exception. They turned up with only 9 players. With the Angels in the position they are, it seemed wrong to field 11 players, so after a word with they’re Manager, and the Ref. I agreed to also play with 9 players in the interests of a good game.
Within the first 3 minutes the Angels gained a corner, which Nat took. She delivered a short ball to Jess, who turned and slotted the ball home. The Angels were in a light-hearted mood, and it was not until some 16 minutes in that Chloe, Charlotte, and Rhyan strung together a neat string of passes to set up Nat, who popped the ball home. Then 20 minutes in Molly slotted the ball to Chloe, who set up Nat once more. Then a minute later Charlotte broke free, and cracked the ball from way out to hit the bar. As we approached the last few minutes of the first half, Leamington Lions hit our crossbar. The half time score was Angels 3, Leamington Lions 0.
In the second half I played around with all sorts of changes, and some 10 minutes in there was a bit of a goalmouth scramble, and Rhyan tapped the ball home. Then some 13 minutes in the Angels passed the ball to Beth Stokes, who set up Harriet with a great shot to score. Some 23 minutes in the Angels were clearly having fun, and Rhyan, Charlotte, Harriet, Nat, and Wilko produced some great inter-passing, but in the end it came to nothing. This was followed a minute later by a great attempt by Leamington Lions. Then just after that Harriet cracked the ball home with a great shot. At this stage of the game the Angels were having lots of friendly banter with each other, and they were urging Ali to play up front, and as she came forward she got the ball to set up Nat to score. In the last few minutes of the game Ali had a shot at goal, followed almost immediately by another Ali attempt. This time she put the ball straight to the Lions goalie, who blocked the shot, and when it came out Ali was desperately scrambling to get in another shot, only to see Harriet run in from the wing, and gently tap the ball over the line. At this point there was chorus of shouts from the Angels saying – that’s how you do it Ali. I have to say that everyone was laughing, and joking, including Ali. This goal from Harriet put the final score at Angels 8, Lions 0. The Angels were clearly in light-hearted frame of mind, and times they played like they were having a friendly knock around at the Red Wreck.
Coming back to the fact that the Lions could only field 9 players. It seems that this season the Lions have only once been able to field 11 players. This is a great shame for girl’s football, and for the girls, because clearly it’s a great opportunity to build team spirit, and have fun.

Angel of the Match Jess Carter
Walsall 2 v 8 Angels
Warwick Angels Match Report 09.04.11.
Today we played Walsall away. This will be our last trek of the season, because our remaining three matches are all relatively local, Leamington Lions, one home, one away, and Coundon Court away. A win today absolutely guarantees that we will win the League.
The Angels started off well, with Charlotte hitting the upright in the first 4 minutes, then some 3 minutes later Nat received a great ball from a whole string of passes, to slot the ball home. This was followed a couple minutes later by another great set of passing to give Nat a great left foot shot into goal. Then about 12 minutes in the Angels gained a corner. Charlotte took the corner, and popped the ball up directly to Jess’s head, and Jess powered the header home. Some 20 minutes in after some neat play the ball came to Nat, and her and Beth Stokes produced some great inter- passing to give Beth a crack at goal, but the shot went just wide. Then a minute later Rhyan brought the ball down the wing to slot the ball to Nat, who shot the ball into the Walsall net. This was followed by Rhyan bringing the ball down the wing, from some neat passing; she then cut inside, and cracked the ball home. With this 0 – 5 lead the Angels seemed to move into non-concentration mode, and Walsall broke through our defence to get in a long high shot at goal, which Jo could not reach. Score Walsall 1, Angels 5. In the last minutes of the first half Walsall gained a corner, which the Angels failed to clear, and from the goalmouth scramble Walsall had a great shot at our goal. Jo was completely wrong footed, but Jess produced a brilliant save. Only problem was that she used her hand to block the ball, giving away a penalty. All credit to Walsall, because they cracked the ball home. So, at the end of the first half the score was Walsall 2, Angels 5.
Considering the fact that the Angels should have been elated by the fact that we had all but wrapped up league championship, their play in the second half was well below par, with just odd bits of good play. A Jess / Nat combination almost produced a goal. This was followed by a great Jess cross from one side of the pitch to Zoe on the other side of the pitch, Zoe slotted the ball to Charlotte, but her shot went just wide. In the 13th minute of this second half Nat took a corner for the Angels, which Chloe headed just wide. Then some 17 minutes in Nat had a great shot at goal, only to see the Walsall goalie produce a fine save. Our next chance came from a free kick some 25 minutes in. Jess really hammered the ball, and once more the Walsall goalie produced another fine save. I made some team changes, and the Angels seemed to liven up to see Nat score from a neat pass from Beth Stokes. Then in dying minutes Beth Stokes and Charlotte produced some great inter-passing play to get the ball to Nat to see her crack the ball home. In the very last seconds of the game Molly slotted home a great goal, and before the ball could be picked up from the Walsall net the final whistle went. The final score was Walsall 2, Angels 8. Overall this was an enjoyable game largely down to the good sporting way the Walsall supporters encouraged this match. Well done to the 10-girl squad of Walsall.

Angel of the Match – Nat.
Angels 3 v 0 Kewford Eagels
Warwick Angels Match Report 02.04.11.
Today we played Kewford A at home. Kewford have always given us a challenge, even though we have beaten them in our two previous games. This was quite an important game for us, because if we beat them today, then I am pretty sure the Angels will win the league. I don’t want to be disparaging to the teams we still have to play, but Walsall, Leamington Lions (2 matches), and Coundon are all struggling at the bottom of the league, so a win today could seal us winning the league.
Right from the start of the came Kewford really came at us, with much of the play in our half. Even though we were under pressure Kewford never looked like they would score, although Jo had to make several quick runs to gather the ball. It was not until some 13 minutes in that the Angels started to play football when Jess hit the crossbar from way out, only to see her do the same from a free kick a minute later. From then on Kewford came back at us with some strong play. We were some 22 minutes in when Harriet neatly passed the ball to Beth Stokes, who in turn set Nat up with a clear shot at goal, which she put away. Once more Kewford put us under pressure just failing to score as we approached the end of the first half. On balance Kewford were probably the better side in this first half, and we were fortunate to end the half with a 1 – 0 lead.
In the second half the Angels picked up their game with Jess taking a long ground shot, which went just wide in the first minute. This was followed a minute later with a corner, which Nat took to drop the ball onto Rhyan’s head, who produced a brilliant header to slam the ball home. Rhyan spent the next ten minutes, or so with a wide grin on her face. Then some 5 minutes in Nat missed an absolute sitter. Some 9 minutes in Kewford came so very close. From then on the Angels produced some great football, with Charlotte covering the whole pitch from end to end, blocking and tackling lots of moves, and she and Chloe produced some brilliant inter-passing to get the ball up the pitch time and time again. As we have grown to expect the whole of the defence were so very solid, with Robin, Millsey, and Molly letting nothing past them. Wilko produced some great play, but the Angels just could not break through, and it was not until some 27 minutes into this second half that Beth Stokes had a shot at goal, which came very close. Then 28 minutes in Jess took a throw in to give Nat a shot at goal, but the Kewford goalie stopped the shot. Then suddenly in the 30th minute Kewford broke through to give them an open shot at goal, but fortunately for us their shooter skied the ball from about 10 yards out. A minute later Harriet came down the wing to give a great cross and chance to Beth Stokes, but she could not get control of the ball. Right in the dying minutes of the game Charlotte, who was surrounded by Kewford players, somehow managed to break free from this melee to left footedly slot the ball to Beth Stokes, who in turn got the ball to Nat to see her crack the ball home to take the final score to Angels 3, Kewford 0. As I said at the beginning of this report Kewford always give us a challenge, and today was no exception.

Angel of the Match – Rhyan.
Boldmere 1 v 10 Angels
Warwick Angels Match Report 26.03.11.
This away match against Boldmere Falcons is our third, and last match against them this season. In the previous two matches we beat them away 1 – 16, and at home we beat them 9 – 0. So, certainly on paper we should be able to take 3 points from this match. However, since we last played them Boldmere have moved up the league table so they are clearly improving as a team.
The Angels had a cracking start to this match, because within the first minute they gained a throw in, which Rhyan took with a long throw to Beth Stokes, who neatly slotted the ball home. Then some five minutes in the Angels bolted together a neat string of passes to set up Rhyan for our second goal. 10 minutes in we gained another throw in, and after a couple of passes Nat got the ball to score our third goal. Following this Boldmere put us under a bit of pressure, but our defence soon closed down this attack. Then some 19 minutes in the Angels gained a free kick, which Jess took with a cracking curving shot, which might have gone in, but Rhyan got a boot to it to make sure of our fourth goal. This was followed by a great shot from Harriet who had come down the wing. The Boldmere goalie could not hold onto this shot, and the re-bound came out Nat to see her take the goal. Once again Boldmere, who in fairness to them never dropped their heads, put a bit of pressure on us, and they did break through to test Jo. Then some 29 minutes in the ball came to Jess at about chest high, and she just left footedly hit the ball from this height from about 25 yards out for a great goal. The Angels then gained another throw in, which after a couple of passes the ball came to Beth Stokes to see her slot the ball home for our 7th, and last goal of the first half.
In the second half I made a whole series of changes, resting some players, and giving others a chance to play in different positions. Some five minutes into this half Rhyan broke free, leaving her just to take on the Boldmere goalie. She put her first shot straight at the goalie, but made up for this when the ball re-bounded out, to steer her second shot home. Then some 12 minutes in Nat booted the ball to Jess, who scored. Some 16 minutes in Chloe, and a Boldmere player clashed heads. In the end both players were OK. Then some 26 minutes in Charlotte slotted the ball to Beth Stokes, who neatly lobbed the ball over the Boldmere goalie. Shortly after this Charlotte was tripped / tackled from behind, and she crashed into one of the Boldmere players who landed awkwardly on her leg, and had to be taken off after a long break in play. Clearly we hope this Boldmere player is OK. Then some 28 minutes into this half Rhyan had an open shot at goal, which went just wide. As we approached the end of the second half Boldmere broke free to score with a long high ball. A great goal for them. There were a couple of little niggles during the match, but overall the Boldmere girls gave us a good game. Final score Boldmere 1, Angels 10. What can I say – all my Angels played great football, with Zoe, Millsey, Molly, and Beth Saunders all doing their bit.

Angel of the Match – Harriet.
Angels 5 v 1 Bilbrook Ladies
Warwick Angels Match Report 19.03.11.
Today we played Bilbrook at home. This is our third and last league match of the season against Bilbrook, although we do have to play them in the Cup Final.
Bilbrook have a number of talented players, and potentially they are a good foot balling side, but poor refereeing spoilt our last two matches. Today’s game was not with out incidents.
Despite this the Angels did what they do best, and just played football. Some 8 minutes in Harriet took the ball down the wing, and produced a cracking pass to Nat, who slotted the ball home. A couple of minutes later Jess made a great pass to Nat to see her score again. Some 17 minutes in we gained a penalty, which Jess took, but without conviction, and surprisingly she missed. A couple of minutes later Jess broke free, and had a real crack at goal. The Bilbrook goalie, who had a great game, could not hold onto this powerful shot, and Nat cracked home her third goal. Then about 21 minutes in Rhyan produced some great football to take the ball all the way down the wing, and despite being heavily elbowed all the way, she crossed the ball to Nat to see her take her fourth goal. Towards the end of this first half Bilbrook broke free, and Jo had to come out to stop the ball. At the end of the first half the score was Angels 4, Bilbrook 0.
Throughout the first half, and during the second half Charlotte was much involved in breaking up the Bilbrook play all over the pitch, aided by Jess, and Robin, Molly, Ali, along with the rest of the defence blocked most of Bilbrook’s attack, although they did have their chances in the second half, as did the Angels. Some 8 minutes into the second half Jess broke free, and missed what for her would normally be a sitter. Then well into the second half Ali took a long punt, but the Bilbrook goalie produced a good stop. Then about 21 minutes in Bilbrook broke free to score. This was followed at about 23 minutes in by a great shot by Rhyan, which their goalie stopped, but as the ball came out from the rebound Harriet was there to slot the ball home.
As we approached the end of the second half, Bilbrook came very close to scoring twice within a couple of minutes of each other. At the end of the match the final score was Angels 5, Bilbrook 1.
There is no doubt that Bilbrook have some talented players, and their goalie was key to stopping several good attempts.

Kewford Eagels 0 v 5 Angels
Today’s away match against Kewford A will be crunch match, because it is a Cup semi final. Kewford A are one of the few teams to give us a real challenge this season, and certainly their ability to score highly is on record, beating Coundon 17 – 0 in a recent match.
Kewford showed their metal right from kick off, putting us under pressure for much of the first half, with some great play, and the ball was in our half for long spells. The Angels were shut down at every move, and just could not seem to get their act together. Some of our passing was poor with many attempted clearances just sending the ball to Kewford players. At best I would say that the Angels play was lacklustre, with Jo in goal called to act more than once, and both Molly and Charlotte just managed to clear the ball off our goal line. It was not until near the end of the first half that we had a couple of chances, both from a Rhyan cross to Nat, but these came to nothing. At the end of the first half the score was Kewford 0, Angels 0, and on balance I think Kewford were the better side.
As we went into the second half, and about three minutes in the Angels gained a free kick, which Jess took with a really powerful shot to give the Angels a 1goal advantage. Somehow that seemed to kick start the Angels, and we played better football, but not great football. Then a minute later from one of our better clearances, Nat was able to chase the ball, and beat the Kewford goalie to give us a 0 – 2 lead. About 8 minutes into this second half the Angels let themselves down with another poor clearance, and Kewford came so very close to scoring.
It was not until some 15 minutes in that Beth Stokes was able to chase the ball and slot home our third goal. The Kewford girls never dropped their heads, and in the 18th minute Jo had to produce a great save from a high shot. Then from nowhere Jess really punted the ball from around 30 yards out, and this went neatly into the Kewford net some 21 minutes into this half. Then Kewford gained a free kick, which the Angels managed to scramble clear. We then gained a corner, which Charlotte took, curving the ball almost into the Kewford net, but they managed to clear the ball. Then about 28 minutes in Beth Stokes managed to race ahead of the Kewford defence to steer the ball around the Kewford goalie to take the score to Kewford 0, Angels 5. This was to be the final score.
I have to say that the Kewford girls played some great football, and in the first half the game could have gone to Kewford. I have to thank Kewford for there sporting play, and for making this Cup semi Final a real challenge.

Angel of the match – the whole team.
Bilbrook Ladies 0 v 6 Angels
Warwick Angels Match Report 05.03.11.
This is a bit like déjà vu, because hear we go again playing Bilbrook away in the space of a couple of weeks. Bilbrook are a good foot-balling side but some unsporting, and blatant shirt pulling, which the referee let go, marred the last game, along with some questionable offside decisions.
Today we were subject to some strong shoving, and on one occasion one of our players was shoved in the back so hard that she nearly went through the courtesy boundary – the Ref. took no action. Clearly strong shoulder charges are fine, but blatant shoving surely is not. The other thing I found distasteful was that having injured our players with a foul the Bilbrook players, and some of their supporters were seen to be laughing. The Ref. had a slightly better game this week, but that was largely due to some strong vocal shouts from the Angels supporters for him to take action as the game went on.
As to the game the Angels all played really well coming very close to scoring in the first few minutes. Then Harriet produced a cracking pass to Nat, who took the ball on the volley to snick home a great goal some 4 minutes in. Then about 7 minutes in Charlotte slotted the ball to Jess, to neatly score. The Angels kept up the pressure with a Harriet / Nat combination to nearly score, followed by a goalmouth scramble, which so nearly produced a goal, and from this the cleared ball came to Beth Stokes who was able to score a fine goal. As we approached the end of the first half we gained a free kick near the sideline, which Jess took to crack the ball home. So, the half time score was Bilbrook 0, Angels 4.
At the start of the second half Bilbrook did put a bit of pressure on us for a short time, but our defence was rarely stretched with Millsey, Molly, Ali, and Robin, along with Rhyan who I put on in defence all clearing the ball well. I had the chance to put on all my squad during this part of the match, and it was good to see Beth Saunders have a great crack at goal, only to see the re-bound come to Wilko, who popped the ball home. Charlotte in mid-field always seemed to be in the right place to block the goal kick outs, and she stopped the ball reaching our half on several occasions. As this second half progressed Beth Saunders produced a great pass to Nat who nearly scored. This was followed by a good shot from Beth Stokes, which the Bilbrook goalie did well to stop, then a few minutes later Beth Stokes hit the side netting. Then in the 29th minute Jess produced a powerful shot to score. In the dying minutes both Jess, and Nat came very close. The final score of Bilbrook 0, Angels 6 was a good solid result, which the Angels deserved, because they just played good football. Well done, Angels.

Angel of the match – Beth Stokes

Coventry City Girls 2 v 3 Angels
Today’s away match was against Coventry City. This will be our third game, and last game against Coventry this season. On the previous two times we played them we won by 2 – 1 each time. So, Coventry – who beat Kewford A 3 – 2 (our next Cup match) will almost certainly be looking to get a win over us. Over the last few season’s Coventry have always proved to be capable of giving us a challenge.
Today was no exception, because they came out with real determination, and they clearly had done their homework on who they needed to shut down.
About 3 minutes in Charlotte came close with a good shot from a Jess throw in, and some 10 minutes in Nat had a good crack at goal, but the Coventry goalie was well up to it. Coventry put the pressure on, and some 13 minutes in they broke through our defence to have a long shot at goal. The shot had no real power to it, and Jo got down to the ball well, but unfortunately it just rolled through her legs to give Coventry a 1 – 0 lead. This clearly spurred Coventry on, but the Angels strung together some neat and accurate passing, and a couple of minutes later Nat got the ball and slotted it home. Coventry continued to play some good football, and they often had two or three players marking both Jess and Charlotte. Despite this Charlotte did produce some great accurate passes to Harriet, but Coventry did well to shut her down.
The match was by no means one sided, and Coventry’s man marking was sound, as was the performance of their goalie. The Angels did have a couple of chances in this first half with a shot from Charlotte, which the Coventry goalie just managed to deflect for a corner. Jess took the corner, and the ball was well curved in, but again the Coventry goalie just snatched the ball out of the air to produce a great save. Some 31 minutes into this first half we gained another corner, which Jess took, and Charlotte came close to converting this, but it was not to be, and at the end of the first half the score 1 – 1.
In the second half Coventry came back at us, and our defence were pressed hard, but thanks to some great defence from Millsey, Molly, Chloe, Robin, sometimes supported by Charlotte who was everywhere on the pitch the Angels held them off. Having said that some 4 minutes in Coventry came very close from a corner kick. About 11 minutes in the Angels bolted together some neat passes to set Nat up for her second goal. Coventry continued to press forward, and a minute later they cracked the ball into the bottom right hand corner of our net. It was not until some 22 minutes into this second half that Jess managed to break free from some tight marking to crack home a great long powerful shot.
I have got to say that Coventry gave us one of the most difficult games we have had this season, with some excellent marking, and great goalkeeping. The end score of 2 – 3 to the Angels was probably a fair result, but it was a great game.

Coventry City 1 v 2 Angels
This away match is our second match against Coventry this season. Coventry have always given us a challenge, and this week they have the chance to tie on points in the league table if they beat us. However, we still have a game in hand over Coventry, and our total goals scored will still leave us at the top of the league. What can I say about this game? It was a good match, and overall the Angels played well, but they missed several good chances to score, and in the end 0 – 3, or maybe 0 – 4 would have been a good reflection of the way we played, so the final score of Coventry 1 – Angels 2 was a bit disappointing.
The Angels started off well putting Coventry under pressure from the kick off, with Nat and others having chances. About 7 minutes in Rhyan received the ball from a great string of passes involving all the front line, and she was able to put the ball away. About 9 minutes in Harriet put in a fantastic pass to Nat, but her lob went wide. For the rest of this first half the Angels put Coventry under pressure, but thanks to some great goalkeeping by the Coventry goalie they could not get the ball into the Coventry net, even from several set pieces. So, at the end of the first half the score was Coventry 0, Angels 1.
The second half was much of the same. Charlotte came close about 9 minutes in, then Jess and Charlotte produced some great combination play, but it all came to nothing. Around 18 minutes into this half Charlotte came close again, then about a minute later Chloe came close. In the 20th minute Charlotte and Jess put together some neat passes to get the ball to Nat who put the ball away. Up to that point our defence had done the Angels proud, with Millsey, Chloe, and Molly providing a near brick wall, which Coventry could just not get past. Then in the 24th minute Coventry gained a corner, and despite numerous attempts the Angels just failed to clear the ball, resulting a very soft shot, which just rolled past Jo into our net.
From then on the Angels picked up their game, with Charlotte forcing a corner from a great shot, but it came to nothing. This was followed by Beth Stokes, Nat and Harriet all coming so close to scoring. Jess also had a couple of long punts at goal, but thanks to some good goalkeeping we just could not get the ball into the Coventry net.
So, although we played well, the end score, Coventry 1, Angels 2, was a shade disappointing, but having said that every one of the Angels put a lot into this game.

Angels 9 v 0 Walsall Ladies
After a run of matches all postponed due to frozen pitches, this was our first match for a while. This week we played Walsall Ladies at home. This is our first ever match against Walsall, because the last time we were scheduled to play them they cancelled the match. The League awarded us a 1 – 0 win. They are currently bottom of the premier league, but an unknown team to us. Certainly on paper we should be able to win.
The Angels started off well, and within the first two minutes there was a goalmouth scramble in the Walsall goal area. Beth Stokes had about three punts at the ball, but could not put it away, so Nat charged in and scored. Then about five minutes in Charlotte took a throw in, which she threw the ball at Jess’s feet, and Jess slotted the ball to Nat to give her a second goal. Jess had a long shot at goal, which went wide, and then the Walsall goalie produced a great save. Some 13 minutes in the Walsall goalie failed to pick up the ball from our play, and Nat was there again to slot the ball home from this error. The Angels produced some great crosses, which we failed to capitalise on. Then in the 24th minute Charlotte had a long lob at goal, but it went wide, then a minute later Jess tried a near identical shot, but that too went wide. As we approached the end of the first half we gained two corners, and from the second one Jess put the ball away. Chloe then came so very close with a great shot, but it just went wide. The Angels then strung together some good passes leaving Jess to make a great scissors kick, which their goalie managed to stop. In the dying minute of this half Jo fluffed a goal kick, probably because she had had nothing to do, but Walsall just missed this chance. So, at the end of the half the score was Angels 4, Walsall 0.
Some seven minutes in Zoe produced a fantastic lob from near the wing, but the Walsall goalie managed to get to it. Then about 12 minutes in Nat intercepted a goal kick to crack the ball home. Shortly after this Chloe came close, then 17 minutes in Molly shot the ball home from a great long shot. About 22 minutes in we gained a free kick, which Molly put just wide. Then around 26 minutes in Nat received a great pass from Jess to pop the ball home. Then Molly had another shot at goal, which the Walsall keeper pushed back out to Molly, who then put the ball way over the Walsall goal. As we approached the last few minutes of the game Nat took a great pass from Harriet to slot the ball home. With only about a minute to go Jess produced a neat lob to finish off the game with a last minute goal. The final score was Angels 9, Walsall 0. Overall I was pleased with the Angels performance, because they did play some intelligent football, with great defensive play, but at the same time they did miss out on some great passes across the Walsall goal.
On paper this result looks like a whitewash for the Angels, but in truth Walsall did give a good game, and the Walsall girls and their supporters showed a very sporting attitude.

Angels 2 v 1 Coventry City Girls
Today we were at home hosting Coventry Girls. This was our first match against Coventry this season. Coventry are currently top of the league, but the Angels have one game in hand, having last weekend played, and just narrowly won a nail biting cup match against Kewford B, who gave us quite a game. Kewford B knocked Coventry out of the cup before Christmas. In the past Coventry have been one of the teams to give us a real challenge, and all the indications are that this could be another tough match for the Angels. Play was made difficult for both sides due to a strong blustery wind.
The Angels were clearly up for this match, and they started really well with some accurate passing, which almost led to a goal from Nat within the first minute. Then Nat again came close about six minutes in, but the Coventry goalie closed her down. This was followed by a dropped ball situation, and once more the Angels produced some neat play to come close to scoring. In the eleventh minute the Angels gained a penalty, but Nat put the ball wide in the windy conditions. Then in the fourteenth minute the Angels strung together some really classic passes to set up Nat for a great goal. Angels 1, Coventry 0. In truth Coventry never really threatened to score, and some excellent defence soon shut down any breaks they made with Ali doing some great work, along with the rest of the defence.
The Angels continued to press forward, with Rhyan coming close from a good cross. Chloe was noticeable with some great defensive play getting the ball to Rhyan, and others. Then in the twenty-fifth minute Harriet put in a great cross to Nat, but she could not convert this to a goal. This was followed by a tremendous shot from Charlotte, but the Coventry goalie produced an equally tremendous save leading to a corner. From that corner the Angels popped a high ball in, only to see the Coventry goalie snatch the ball from the top of Rhyan’s head. In the last minutes of the game Nat received a great pass to convert it into a goal. Angels 2, Coventry 0.
In the second half Coventry came out with real determination, and about four minutes in they broke through our defence to score. Angels 2, Coventry 1. Coventry continued to press forward, and the ball spent a lot more time in our half than it did in the first half, and although they gained a couple of corners, and two free kicks Coventry never really looked like they were going score, but at the same time the Angels never looked like they would have the chances they had in the first half. Throughout the game the Angels played some good strong passing football, and certainly on balance they deserved the win, but all credit to Coventry for giving us a challenging game. Well done Angels, and particularly all our defence.

Kewford Eagles 4 v 5 Warwick Angels
After so long off, this fixture was welcome for all, Looking at the game before hand with the angels top of Prem league and Kewford 2nd in division 1 you would have put this as a banker and how wrong you would have been!
The Angels started very slowly and within 7 min’s they was 2 v 0 down and looking for inspiration from a player or two. Up stepped Jess, and she started to dictate the midfield and with this came 3 goals, but this never stopped Kewford who played with passion and the determination to win every ball and with that the angels could never settled down and play their game. After half time the angels started to put more pressure on Kewford and took a 5v3 lead and were looking to go through to the semi finals when a dubious penalty was given to Kewford with five minutes to go. The pen was nicely placed in the bottom corner to make it 5v 4 and a shock was on the cards, but the angels stayed strong and the final score was 5v4.
I would like to say Kewford were a well organized side and the best side we have played this season. After the game, all I heard was how well Kewford played and what a game it was. Looking at Kewford’s match report later it said it was the best game they have ever played was their headline. I have to remind people every week the angels go on the field of play and after the game opposition managers always says best we have played this season, what it says about the angels is that they are a good side and have to play at their best every week not just one or two games a season.
Well done Angels

Warwick Angels 12 v 0 Coundon Court Girls
Warwick Angels Match Report 20.11.10.
Today we hosted Coundon Court at our home ground. The Angels were up and firing from the kick off, with some neat passing, and goal from Nat within about a minute. Coundon re-gathered to produce some good football, but each and everyone in the Angels defence just shut down any breaks. Our next goal came from some excellent defence to give Jess a long crack at goal, which gave their goalie no chance. From then on the Angels produced some great football preventing any chances for Coundon. Zoe put in a brilliant cross, which we failed to capitalise on, and then Charlotte tried to lob the Coundon goalie, but she got to the ball. The Angels continued to string together some good passes, and missed a corner, which hit the top of the net. Then in the twenty second minute Nat cracked home a neat goal. From the resulting kick off Nat broke free again to score her hat-trick. Then a few minutes later the Angels broke free again to see Beth Stokes have an open chance at goal, but initially the Coundon goalie blocked the attempt, and a real good goal mouth scramble ensued with feet flying everywhere, but eventually Beth Stokes finished things off, almost dragging the ball over the line. As we approached the end of the first half a Beth Stokes shot was saved by the Coundon goalie, then Jess had a crack at goal. Rhyan produced some excellent football, and within seconds of the whistle blowing Chloe hit the post. So, at the end of the first half the score was Angels 5 – Coundon 0.
Not long into the second half we gained a penalty, because a Coundon player, not surprisingly, protected her face from a very powerful shot from Jess. Beth Saunders took the penalty, which the Coundon goalie saved. Almost immediately Beth Saunders redeemed herself by popping the ball home. In the 12th minute we gained a corner, which Beth Stokes headed home. A few minutes later Charlotte had a long crack at goal, which she put way over the net. I won’t repeat what she said about this miss, but lets just say she addressed the ball. Shortly afterwards Nat did the same thing. After some great passing from the Angels Charlotte passed the ball backwards to Molly, who nearly took the back out of the Coundon goal, and then within about a minute, Molly repeated this shot to score again. Then about 24 minutes into this second half Charlotte had her chance to redeem her earlier miss, with a brilliant goal from well over 25 yards out. Shortly after this the Coundon goalie made a great save, but she could not hold onto the ball, and it came out to Nat, who cracked the ball home. Then with only minutes to go to the end of the game Charlotte slotted a great ball to Nat, who once more cracked the ball home. This was to be our final goal of the match taking the end score to Angels 12 – Coundon 0. Literally with only seconds to go Coundon broke free to see Jo prevent a goal. Jo summed up the match when she said “hooray I touched the ball”. Having said that, I have to say that although the Angels soundly outplayed Coundon, the Coundon girls, and their supporters can hold their heads high for the spirit in which this game was played.

KEWFORD EAGELS 0 v 3 ANGELS
Warwick Angels Match Report 13.11.10.
Today's game was away against Kewford Eagles A. We played Kewford in our first match of the season beating them 2 – 0 at our home ground. Kewford are one of the stronger sides in our league. They are currently number three in the league table with 38 goals scored, and 4 goals against them. They have scored heavily against the teams they have played, and their only lost game was against the Angels. So on paper this was to be a good competitive match.
Without doubt this match lived up to expectations. For the first 10 minutes plus much of the play was in our own half, with Kewford gaining three corners, which they failed to capitalise on. It was 13 minutes before the Angels made any serious break through, and then some 14 minutes in Charlotte slotted the ball to Nat, who then neatly passed to Rhyan who popped the ball home for our first goal. Then Harriet took an unintentional ball full in the face, and had to come off for a while. Our next near chance came from a corner, which Charlotte took a short one to get the ball to Nat, who came very close. Shortly after this we followed with a neat ball from Charlotte to Nat, who unfortunately got underneath it to see the ball go way over the Kewford net. Then Kewford came back at us once more with some good play, but Robin, Millsey, Ali, and Molly all stepped up to the mark with some excellent defending. We then gained a corner to see Rhyan, and Beth Stokes produce some great one, two passing, but we could not get the ball home. Then Charlotte did a great solo run to get the ball all the way to the goal line, but by the time support had arrived she could not get the cross in. Literally seconds before the end of the first half Jess hit he crossbar. So at the end of the first half the Score was Kewford 0 – Angels 1.
In the second half the Angels strung together some neat passes resulting in a brilliant cross from Rhyan, which Nat got a foot to, only to see the Kewford goalie get a leg to, preventing a goal. Some 6 minutes into this half Kewford put us back under pressure to see Charlotte produce a great headed clearance, then Charlotte played the ball well forward to Nat, who was only just beaten to the ball by the Kewford goalie. Shortly after this Charlotte popped a great pass to Nat, who again came so very close. Kewford then came back at us yet again to see Molly produce a good rescue clearance to take the ball well up the field. The match was very much to and fro, with Kewford having a good crack at our goal, then Charlotte came very close from a throw in from Jess, then Kewford coming close from a free kick. It was not until the 21 first minute into this half that Jess slotted the ball to Charlotte to see her crack the ball home. Then Harriet produced a neat back pass to Charlotte, who punted a good long shot at goal to see it go just wide, then Beth Stokes passed a ball to Harriet who again came close. This was followed by a good solo run from Beth Stokes, which she could not finish off. Then as we approached the end of the match we gained a corner, which Charlotte floated in to give Beth Stokes a perfect header to take the final score to Kewford 0 – Angels 3. I must thank Kewford for giving us our most challenging game of the season so far, but I have to say that my Angels were up to that challenge.
