Frequently Asked Questions About Joining Warwick Juniors FC
Volunteers
It’s not just children who can get involved. It takes an army of helpers to run Warwick Juniors.
We need Parents and Guardians to volunteer as helpers, managers, coaches, committee members or to transport the players to and from matches. You don't need any previous experience. We can show you what to do. If you are a parent or guardian and would like to get involved, please speak to your child's team manager and we’ll tell you how you can join in the fun.
What Age can I Join?
You can join Warwick Juniors from as young as 4 years old. What time is training and where is it? Training for the youngest age groups is held on a Saturday morning 9.00 to 10.30 at Aylesford School, Shirley Avenue,Warwick.
Training for all other age groups can vary.
At the discretion of your team manager training may be moved to an alternate time and venue.
Can anyone join in? In the youngest age groups – definitely. Young girls and boys of any ability or with no football skills at all are welcome. Don’t wait to be asked just come along and join in the fun.
In the age groups U7's to U10's mini-soccer (7-a-side) teams are formed and we are generally looking to increase numbers, running as many teams as possible to try and include everyone.
At age 10 as 11-a-side squads are formed again new players are often welcome. Above that it may depend on numbers currently in that age group and ability may be taken into consideration.
If in doubt please contact the club for details.
Please note that we run teams for both girls and boys, all teams up to and including the 11 year olds are run as mixed gender. We will look to run separate girls teams if that’s what you’d prefer and numbers will allow.
What kit do I need? For training you will need to wear suitable football kit, shirt, shorts and football socks.
You will need to wear shin pads, if you don’t then you will not be able to take part in all of the training activities. It is an important safety aspect of the game and as such we have to refuse participation, we’d prefer not to upset or exclude anyone so please remember to wear them.
In periods of bad weather and especially the cold please bring suitable warm clothes, a sweatshirt, tracksuit bottoms, tracksuit top, hat and gloves.
Footwear depends on the time of year. During dryer weather, late spring through to early autumn you may opt for trainers, astro-style, or hard-ground football boots and in wet conditions a soft-ground ‘studded’ boot. We only ask that you footwear fits, is comfortable and is suitable for playing football in the conditions, and of course that your laces are tied!
Please also remember to bring a drink.
How much does it cost?
Training costs £1 per week and is payable to the coach / manager each week when you arrive to train.
To join Warwick Juniors it costs £25(only for team players) per year renewable each summer.
Match Fees currently stand at £2.50 per match for all sides.
What can I expect? In the youngest age groups the emphasis is on fun and all the children have a great time .... but we do provide serious skills training which will help them develop as young football players.
We fa coaching for our youngest age group – to make sure they get the best possible start to their football experience. They concentrate on balls skills and teaching players how to be comfortable with a ball ... and we really do make sure they have fun doing it.
When you get a bit older your age group will split off as you start to prepare to play matches and to make room for the next 4,5 and 6 year olds. You will ‘find’ your own team manager(s) a willing parent who will manage your team hopefully right through until under Youth or men's football which as happened many times!
All of our teams have at least one FA qualified coach and several of our teams have more than one so you can expect to receive the best possible coaching.
How will I know if training is cancelled due to bad weather?
If you are a player, or a player's parent or guardian, and you think that bad weather may affect your match or training, then please speak to your team manager in the first instance. They should be keeping in regular contact with the people who provide match and training pitches and will be able to advise you of any cancellations.
Also, keep an eye on the website at weekends. We normally post a message concerning training and / or match cancellations on the front page (home page) of this website which can save you a trip when the weather is inclement. We don't always get the news in good time. There have been occasions where we have had matches / training cancelled by the authorities while they were taking place. However, we do usually get the news either on Friday night or very early on Saturday morning.
Can I play matches?
As you progress into the under 7’s age group at Warwick All-Stars you will start to play matches in the form of 7-a-side friendlies. These normally take place on a Sunday morning and will be played on either on our home pitch at Aylesford School or could be an ‘away’ fixture at another clubs home ground.
Is there anything else I should know? Probably. Hopefully many of your questions have been answered but if there is anything we have missed than please feel free to contact our secretary via email or come along and try us. Our team managers and coaches will be able to answer any questions you may have.
